To those of you who dont know, we have left Norway on our sailboat, and will be travelling for 14 months, that is Øyvind, me, and our two girls. So now here we are in Scotland, and loving it. We left Norway, us plus Kjell, Ingrid and Kristine the 25 of June, had a really great crossing, the boat and the girls handled it very well...lots of oil riggs and dolphins.
The Calidonia canal was really interesting and we met lots of great people, Norsk, Scots, and Americans...passed a few boats from Canada too....
Everyone on board went swimming in Loche Ness, Øyvind and I where the first with a very nice 80 year old man from Scotland, (Clyde area), that was really great through the lock system..one of the things i had said i wanted to do,swim with Nessy...
Øyvind got to eat fish and chips for the first time, he liked it, but after three helpings he had had enough.
Kjell and Ingid had to fly home from the top of Neptunes Stairs back to Norway, the girls and i took an old steam train to Malaig, and then back the same day, it was a great trip, saw the bridge they filmed a part of the Harry Potter films . Emma met a little girl named Julia, from Denmark which she played with the next few days.
We decided to go through the Cranin Canal, we sailed together with another Norweigain boat Liv, she is 128 year old sail boat from Norway. While they sailed onto Greenock, tail ship race, we went on to Troon.
The trip through the Cranin was an adventure, so narrow we could pick flowers from the canal banks on either side of the boat... to be honest i wondered if there was room for us there...plus we had to operate all the locks ousselves..the girls where great and we had help from our fellow Norwegians too...
Now we are in Troon, and are heading to Ireland tomorrow....im exciting and cant wait to visit Cork....
I have to say the people in Scotland have been the greatest, so kind and helpful...funny and welcoming...so interesting to come to another country and meet people that meet us with open arms....i love it here..and the country itself is sooooo beautiful.....will let you know what happens once we get to Ireland... Elise also has a blog. Emma also has one, Elises blog address is http://www.johnston.blogg.no/ with lots of pics.
